Always the Florist, Never the Bride

You know that saying, the one that makes single females everywhere cringe—“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride!” That one. Well at least it always made my skin crawl.

As one of the last of my female friends to get married at the ripe old age of 31, I lived that. But instead of always being the bridesmaid, I was always the florist. In fact, I missed quite a lot of weddings because I was elsewhere working on other weddings or events.

For over a decade a lot of Saturdays during “wedding season” were spent helping to create beautiful moments for other people. But hey, not every job can be perfect right? Isn’t it enough that I get to work in a field that allows me to express my creativity? I think so (most of the time).

Well my friends, the script was flipped. I remember when I started to plan the wedding, I was thinking, I know that this won’t be easy by any means, but having spent all of that time in the wedding industry has to mean that it takes some of the pressure off. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be too dramatic, because I am sure that it really did make a difference. But planning a wedding in 5 months during a pandemic is no cake walk.

I look so calm one month prior, right?

(Hint: I wasn’t)

For years I’ve dreamed of opening my own floral studio. I’ve worked at several shops and learned an insurmountable amount of information at each one. But I am SO glad that just before, BOTANICA truly gets going that I was put in the seat opposite me.

The pressure, the diet, the exercise, wanting to please everyone, dealing with the blow back from not pleasing everyone, budgets, decisions, decisions and even more decisions. It can make an industry professional question her sanity!

So what I want to say is, brides, I see you. I see the excitement along side the panic. I see the want for it to all be over paired with never wanting it to end. I see and understand how if you have to hear one more person give an opinion about Brussel Sprouts at your wedding, you may just tell them where to put it.

It’s true—bridezilla does exist. But didn’t the namesake, Godzilla just want to be heard and understood?

(Honestly, if that’s not that case, I really don’t know. I’ve never seen it).
